OBJECTIVE
Reducing the concentration of nitrates in the water cycle
Elektra aims to reduce the concentration of nitrates in the integral water cycle by co-creating an integrated, innovative, simple, economical, sustainable, and transferable system based on the use of electrochemical denitrification to remove nitrates towards their conversion into gaseous nitrogen, while enhancing the decarbonization of the process through a renewable integration analysis focused on photovoltaics, hydrogen and other means of optimization.

TIMELINE
The project, initiated in October 2023, is set to present its final results in March 2027
2023 - 2026DESIGN
Prototypes design2026-2027IMPLEMENTATION
Prototypes implementation and validation in Malta, GandÃa, and Gran Canaria
ROLE OF APRIA
Prototypes

The role of Apria in the Elektra project is the definition, design, and construction of two prototypes combining ion exchange, reverse osmosis, and electrochemical denitrification.
CONSORTIUM
The project LIFE Elektra is implemented by a consortium of 8 partners
Global Omnium - Aguas de Valencia, Universidad de Alicante, Instituto Tecnológico de la EnergÃa, Universitat de València, Apria, Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, Water Service Corporation, and REDINN.
