Promoting the recovery and valorization of strategic mineral resources for the ecological transition
- Funding: CDTI
- Call: Misiones 2022
- Project code: MIG-20221040
- Budget: 5,004,216.00 €
- Period: November 2022 – June 2025
- Webpage: https://minethic.es/

OBJECTIVE
Recovery of non-conventional raw materials
MINETHIC’S main objective is research into new sources of non-conventional strategic raw materials, both industrial and urban, for the Ecological Transition covering the entire value chain from: pre-treatments to concentrate the materials of interest and eliminate interference, through separation, recovery, and purification treatments, to the validation of the materials recovered in final applications.
New technologies will be investigated to recover and valorize CPM from mineral resources, by-products and waste streams, as well as the integration of digital technologies, promoting a sustainable, efficient and local supply of CPM.

TIMELINE
The project, initiated in November 2022, is set to present its final results in June 2025
2022 - 2023IDENTIFICATION & DESIGN
Identification of sources of MPCs and conceptual design of recovery routes2022 - 2024PRETREATMENT
Research on the pretreatment and concentration of MPCs2023 - 2025PURIFICATION
Research on the purification of MPCs from concentrates2022 - 2025APPLICATION
Research on the application of recovered MPCs in final products
ROLE OF APRIA
Combination of membrane technology and electrochemistry

The role of Apria in the MINETHIC project is the design, construction and validation of innovative processes based on membrane and electrochemical technology.
This technology will allow the recovery and valorization of critical raw materials (MPCs) and other elements considered key for the ecological transition (REE, Ni/Co, Mn, P, etc.) from different mining by-products and urban and industrial wastes.
CONSORTIUM
MINETHIC is implemented by a consortium of six partners
Técnicas reunidas, Apria, FCC Medio Ambiente, IDP Ingeniería y Arquitectura Iberia, Ingeniería Magnética Aplicada, and Torrecid.

Minethic has been subsidized by the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) and supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, with co-financing from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, in the call for the year 2022 “Science and Innovation Missions Program”, of the State Program to Catalyze Innovation and Business Leadership of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2021 - 2023, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
