Validation of a prototype of CO2 – Recycling Plant in hard to
abate sectors: textile industry (VALCO2-T)
- Funding: Next Generation EU. Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación. Agencia Estatal de Investigación.
- Call: LÃneas Estratégicas 2022
- Project code: PLEC2021-009398
- Budget: 777,246.32 €
- Period: December 2022 – November 2025

OBJECTIVE
Decarbonizing the textile industry
VALCO2-T aims to decarbonize the textile sector through the validation of a new electrocatalytic route, based on photovoltaic supply, in which the electro-reduction of CO2 and the oxidation of waste leads to derived products capable of reducing the carbon footprint of current processes.

TIMELINE
The project, initiated in November 2022, is set to present its final results in December 2025
2022 - 2023LAB SCALE
Construction of real gas sampling equipment and optimization of laboratory scale plant (2 L / min)2023-2024SCALE-UP
Construction of the capture and electroreduction plant (20 L / min) Digital twin2024 - 2025VALIDATION
Installation, commissioning, and validation in Textil Santanderina
ROLE OF APRIA
Scaling of technologies

Apria's role in the VALCO2-T project is the scale-up of two technologies for the production of formic acid from CO2 streams from the textile industry:
- Separation / concentration with membranes (20 L/min)
- CO2 electrolyzer (20 L/min)
CONSORTIUM
VALCO2-T is implemented by a consortium of three partners
Universidad de Cantabria, Textil Santanderina, and Apria Systems
