After three years of implementation, the VALCO2-T project was completed last November.
The project has achieved its strategic objective of developing and validating a pilot plant for COâ‚‚ capture and utilization (CCU) to reduce the textile industry's carbon footprint and generate value-added products, in line with sustainability and circular-economy principles.

During its development, a key alliance for the project's success has been established among the University of Cantabria, responsible for technical leadership and research; Textil Santanderina S.A., responsible for industrial application; and Apria Systems S.L., which has contributed its expertise in engineering and pilot plant construction.
The main achievements of the project include:
- The technological scaling of the process from the laboratory (200 mL/min) to the pilot plant (2 L/min)
- The capture of COâ‚‚ validated through tests with real gases from TS
- The optimization of electrochemical conversion for the production of formic acid, achieving high faradaic efficiencies (>70%) with moderate energy consumption
- The validation of the direct application of the formic acid obtained to neutralize basic solutions used in textile processing.
Thank you to all the people and institutions that have made this possible.
