Solar to hydrogen energy conversion efficiency using seawater (S2H)
- Funding: Next Generation EU. Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación. Agencia Estatal de Investigación.
- Call: LÃneas Estratégicas 2021
- Project code: PLEC2021-007718
- Budget: 372,673.00 €
- Period: December 2021 – September 2025

OBJECTIVE
Solar to hydrogen energy conversion efficiency using seawater
S2H aims to generate new knowledge to improve the efficiency in the conversion of seawater into hydrogen through the use of solar energy.
Three technologies will be applied for this purpose:
- RED for seawater valorization and electricity generation.
- Photocatalysis for the valorization of seawater and the generation of H2.
- PEMFC for the generation of electricity from the H2 generated.

TIMELINE
The project was initiated in April de 2021 and will present its final results in March 2025
2021 - 2023TECHNICAL EVALUATION
Performance analysis of photocatalytic H2 generation from seawater.2023 - 2024ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency of the integrated S2H process.2023 - 2024ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT
Evaluation of the environmental impact of the process.
ROLE OF APRIA
Photocatalytic reactor

The role of Apria in the S2H project is the design and construction of a photocatalytic reactor for H2 production and the evaluation of the potential exploitation and protection of the results obtained.
CONSORTIUM
The project S2H is formed by a consortium of 4 partners
Universidad de Cantabria, Mare, Apria, and Gesvican.
