Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) are characterized by the in-situ generation of chemical species with a high oxidation power (i.e. hydroxyl radicals). Innovative solutions proposed by APRIA Systems include, among others, photocatalysis and electrochemical oxidation.



AOPs are considered as sustainable treatment processes. The main advantages of these technologies are:

Electrooxidation

Electrooxidation (ELOX) is an electrochemical oxidation process in which a certain current density is applied to electrodes immersed in the effluent to be treated, producing a total or partial elimination of the organic matter present. APRIA Systems has developed a process based on electrooxidation, achieving a content reduction in terms of organic matter and recalcitrant compounds (phenols, cyanides, etc.) by means of specific electrodes. Additionally, it provides an effective disinfection capacity for both bacteria and viruses.

Most common applications: wastewater treatment for the removal of: organic matter, phenols, cyanides, herbicides, fungicides, color, odor or other microcontaminants.

Photocatalysis

APRIA Systems has extensive experience in the design, construction and commissioning of advanced oxidation installations based on heterogeneous photocatalysis for R&D of wastewater treatment processes.

The configuration of the photoreactors and their materials are adapted to the customer needs. APRIA Systems designs diverse photoreactor configurations such as:

  • Stirred photoreactor with external radiation
  • Annular photoreactor
  • Tubular photoreactor

Most common applications: wastewater treatment, removal of microorganisms, purification of textile effluents, self-cleaning/anti-fog, air purification (VOCs, NOx).
